Is my essay on refrigerators good?

It my essay interesting? Is it well-written? We had to write an essay on an important invention and I chose refrigerators because I didn't think a lot of people would do that (most people wrote it on computers or cell phones) so that my essay won't compare to anyone else's. Can you please revise it, suggest better sentences, and tell me if it's interesting and well-written?

The chilly air greets my body as I grab my favorite flavor of genuine ice cream. The power to keep my ice cream frozen is all in the refrigerator. It can keep food chilled or frozen, and can also dispense icy water and ice. We couldn鈥檛 live without it. Sleek and simple, a lot of people don鈥檛 realize how inportant it is.

To begin with, a refrigerator uses blasts of air, which are powered by electricity, to keep food and drink frosty for consumption. It can store marvelous meals or delightful snacks. Some people prefer chrome exteriors over plastic. But all refrigerators generally look similar. And they are all used for the same purpose.

Likewise, there are many possible designs for a refrigerator. There can be side-by-side doors, or stacked doors (one on top of the other). The exterior can be stainless steel chrome or hard plastic. There is usually a water/ice dispenser for those hot summer days, or just wanting a sip. On the interior, a light turns on when you open it. Now that useful. What also useful are the crystal-clear, spill-proof shelves. There are also shelves on the inside of the doors, and drawers somewhere near the bottom. One side of the refrigerator is the chilly side for just keeping things cold, and one side is the freezer. Standard refrigerators are a bit taller than the average adult. But there are also miniature refrigerators, which are no taller than a 2-year-old. Modern refrigerators can now have touch-sensitive screens and televisions embedded into them!

But think about it. What would we do without refrigerators? Well, let just imagine people hundreds of years ago, having to plan what to cook before they bought or harvested groceries. Most food, such as meat, can鈥檛 just lay around for days. Nowadays, we can just buy groceries and freeze them to make them last longer, or we can just chill them for a short period of time. Somewhere along the line, people started filling chests and cabinets with snow, and then they placed their food inside. Finally, the world first refrigerator. But in the summer when the snow liquified, an ice chest wasn鈥檛 possible. They were back to what they had to do before. Eventually, when electricity was discovered, an electric refrigerator was invented. It probably not what we have today, but similar. Now that better than a grungy old chest!

Think about what we would do without the refrigerator. Like it or not, we would have to use the technology that pioneers did. And it doesn鈥檛 even snow in Florida. Good thing we have the refrigerator. Great for keeping splendid food stored and chilled, they are sleek, simple, low-maintenance, and most important, revolutionary. Is my essay on refrigerators good?
