How do you clean a dishwasher after something is melted inside?

Could you kindly help me??

Back in February 2009 I was washing a load of dishes and somehow one of my Calphalon hard plastic stove top utensils (here is a pic of what melted: http://www.cutleryandmore.com/details.as鈥?/a> slipped down to the very bottom of the dishwasher and MELTED on that hot grill.

The house of course smelt like it was on fire. I have since washed the dishwasher alone like 50 times with regular dish detergent like the SUPREME stuff, organic stuff, even ';Jet Dry Dishwasher Cleaner'; and multiple Dishwasher cleaners. Over and over! Since Feb U have washed that dishwasher probably 50 plus times. Till this day every time we use it our dishes smell burnt and the house will fill up with a bit of a burnt smell (Of course nothing like before) My husband hand scrubbed everything twice.

Any ideas how to remove this smell so we can wash our dishes in the dishwasher without this burnt odor??

PS it a JennAir and it a pretty nice dishwasher that is only three years old. So I really don鈥檛 want to replace it :)

Many Thanks!!! I really appreciate anyone's help!

PS We have replaced ALL of our plastic/nylon cooking utensils and replaced with stainless steel. :)How do you clean a dishwasher after something is melted inside?
REMOVE THE PLASTIC: If your dishwasher has removable racks, take the racks out, dishes and all, and set them aside. Remove what you can of the melted plastic, and tie it off in a plastic bag to avoid further spreading of odor. Allow the system to cool completely so that the plastic becomes hardened. Then use your plastic scraping tool to scrape off the pieces. If you don't have a scraping tool made for the kitchen, try using a small car ice scraper. While a butter knife or metal utensil can be used, this is more likely to damage the heating unit. As you scrape off the metal chunks, wipe them up with paper towels to keep them from falling into the dishwashers water reservoir.

REMOVE THE REMAINING PLASTIC RESIDUE: Once you've removed all the sizable chunks of plastic, you'll want to reintroduce the heating element so you can melt off the remaining residue before you return any dishes to the dishwasher. You might wish to wear a face mask during this part of the process. Close the dishwasher, still emptied of its dish racks, and turn the cycle to heated dry. Allow about 5 minutes for the drying rack to heat up. Then open it up, and wipe the dry rack with a cloth rag or paper towels. Use a clean piece of the rag each time to avoid spreading melted plastic. As needed, close the dishwasher and turn the heating element back on to reheat the plastic. Continue this process until you can wipe the heating element without seeing any residue transferred to your rag.

NOW DEAL WITH THE ODOR: Unfortunately, you still have a dishwasher load full of stinky dishes. Neutralize the melted plastic smell by pouring one cup of baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher. Then replace the dish racks and dishes, and sprinkle the dishes directly with up to one more cup of baking soda. I used a scented variety of arm and hammer that I keep on hand to freshen my garbage disposal. Put dish washing detergent in the second rinse cup of the washer. TURN THE HEATED DRY FUNCTION OFF. Then run the dishwasher on a second rinse cycle. The baking soda will neutralize odors and works in the water reservoir of the dishwasher to remove lingering residue. When the cycle is done, hand dry your dishes and put them away.

RUN A TEST BEFORE USING THE HEATED DRY FUNCTION: Now that you've removed residual odor and put away your dishes, run a test by once again switching on the dishwasher' s heated dry cycle. If there's no odor this time, you're good to go. You can run your next load of dishes normally. If the melted plastic smell returns, you won't want to run the heated dry function with dishes in the dishwasher until the odor is completely gone. Repeat step 2 and follow up with another cycle run with baking soda.

I rather suggest call the maker and they will be the best judge as to to do or replace part that is very important,

not forgetting the makers reputation is also involved for not putting notice on the front of loader,

Happy hunting, goo luck
