How do you care for stainless steel pots and pans?

I just got the new Rachel Ray stainless steel pan set for Christmas. I hear they are awesome. The first time I cooked with them they leave that nasty look at the bottom of the pan like its already wearing out. Why? I know my dad spent at least 179.00 for them and that is expensive. So is there somewhere on the internet where you can learn how to ';care'; for your pans? What you should and shouldn't do when cooking with stainless steal. Thanks in advance. How do you care for stainless steel pots and pans?

stainless steel is good for boiling food .but not for frying you can fry in them but it tends to stain get you some steel wool and scrub them out the cookware will last you a long time and stainless never rusts
$179 is expensive if it is low quality stainless steel, which it likely is. What you are probably experiencing is staining.

Like your kitchen sink, you can use a variety of non-scratching pads to keep the surface clean, but you really don't want to waste time polishing your pots daily.

My set was over $300 and I have the same problem.

Ps You can condition new pots and pans by coating in oil and heating them up first. Then cook your food. But if you scrape the surface clean again, then you have to re-condition them.

Pss Never use High, except to boil water.
Does it look like a chalky film is on the pan? If so, you can pour about 1/3 cup of white distilled vinegar with a little juice from a lemon, cover the pan with the lid and allow it to boil away until the vinegar/lemon mixture completely dissolves. This should help shine it up again. You can also use Bar Keeper's Friend (about $2.00 at Target in the cleaning supply aisle), it can also shine up chrome fixtures like new again.
